MATCHES MADE TRAILER

Logline
After a woman finds out her girlfriend is asexual, she has to re-learn the meaning of relationships while friends interfere.

Synopsis
"MATCHES MADE" is a short comedy film surrounding miscommunication in a relationship between Paula Owens and her asexual girlfriend, Magdalyn Davies. Paula and Magdalyn have been in a budding relationship for three months now but Paula is left floundering when all her hints of initiating sex has been rebuffed. On the night of their three month anniversary, Paula feels tonight is the night but is instead surprised by her girlfriend's coming out as asexual. Throughout the film, Paula and Magdalyn have to deal with their meddling friends, and learn that they were happy together the way they were all along.

Director's Bio
Yin Yee Low
Yin Yee Low is an aspiring storyteller and filmmaker born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She recently moved to Auckland, New Zealand as she feels the country’s landscape is best for telling the stories she wants heard.
Over the last 2 years, Yin Yee has been studying at Auckland University of Technology in a Bachelor of Communications Studies, majoring in Television and Screen Production. Being in the course has allowed Yin Yee to challenge and refine her skills as a filmmaker, as well as given her the opportunity to write, direct and produce several short films, studio shows and documentaries as part of the course work.
Matches Made will be Yin Yee’s debut short film, exploring the idea of romance and sexuality, and challenging the conventional views of what a romantic relationship should be like. Yin Yee is driven to create more stories that are reflective of her culture and background with the aim to promote social change and create awareness.

Director's Statement
When I first set out to write Matches Made, it was a story heavily inspired by my sister, her sexuality and her first relationship where her being asexual was seen as an issue that would make and break her relationship.
As much as this film is a romantic comedy, I also hope that through it, people realise that asexuality is a valid, real sexuality in the the LGBT+ spectrum and that at the end of the day, conversations around it happen. Asexuality as a whole is not talked about much, nor is it ever truly seen in the television and film industry as something that deserves the spotlight.
Through the comedy of the film, I hope that it inspires people to see through the sub-context of it, which challenges conventional relationship expectations, and goes to show that perhaps, sex, is not the only way to show someone you love them.
As someone who identifies within the spectrum of asexuality, being able to bring this film to life with the help of my incredibly talented cast and crew has been a blessing and an honour.
